Laurie Berkner’s music is being heard by young children at home and in classrooms around the country. I first heard about her from a parent of one of my students. We were learning about dinosaurs and she told me about a song called “We Are The Dinosaurs” by Laurie Berkner. The song is about a day in the life of a dinosaur and allows children to feel powerful through her words and movement. I am amazed by her musical talent and the array of songs that she has created. Some of the songs promote power while others allow the children to feel a sense of security. Her songs appeal to children through her use of imagination, creativity and sense of humor. Through music, Laurie is able to teach children rhyming words, actions and other cognitive domains. Children are encouraged to move around and participate. Children in my class who once had a difficult time participating and imitating are now singing at the top of their lungs and dancing around the classroom.
Laurie’s albums include Victor Vito, Buzz Buzz, Whaddaya You Think of That and Under a Shady Tree.
You can also order music, sing alongs and videos by Laurie Berkner.
